Lil Wayne gives an update after shooting the Drake video, says he’s about to shoot a video for Shanell… then he shoots 3 more, including one for Rick Ross, and says he’s about to shoot the video for Travis McCoy’s (Gym Class Heroes) “Tattoo Girl.” He might be wrong about some of the song title though, because he got mixed up on the “Africa Moombata” one.
The Young Money family, including Nicki Minaj, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine were in the building, as well as Wayne’s Hot Boys partner B.G. and, of course, the Birdman. While the crew celebrated the Super Bowl victory of their home team the New Orleans Saints, the mood at the party had an undercurrent of sadness, as everyone was aware of Wayne’s fate. Last week, Minaj discussed her feelings about Weezy’s sentence with MTV News.
“It’s sad, because he doesn’t deserve to go to jail,” Minaj said about Wayne’s legal situation. “I’m a crybaby,” she added, fighting back tears. “You shouldn’t ask me stuff like that. Reality hasn’t set in that he has to go to jail. He shouldn’t have to go to jail.”- MTV
And ever since the video kicked off the new decade, the song’s hook has been on repeat on radio. But the funny thing is, the sample doesn’t say “on to the next one.” It’s actually looping the words “under the spotlight.” The song samples Justice’s 2007 hit “D.A.N.C.E.,” and Swizz said he never would have created Jay’s club banger without the urging of Pharrell Williams and Q-Tip. “To be honest, Q-Tip and Pharrell put me onto Justice,” Swizz told MTV News. “We had a long conversation on the phone, and they were like, ‘Yo, you need to get onto this Justice joint.’ I knew the sound, but I didn’t know the name of the sound that I was liking. They were calling me back, like, ‘Yo, did you get the Justice stuff yet?’ Nah, nah, I’m on it. I was on vacation or something, and they called me again, and they were like, ‘Yo, did you get the Justice joint? We’re going to stay on top of you!’ ” – MTV
